Presentations in Education

Presentations in Education  Presentations in the classrooms are both used by students and teachers in many different discipline areas. Teachers tend to use presentation methods such as PowerPoint to deliver information to students rather than writing that information on the whiteboard. On the other hand, students have used PowerPoint or similar to present assessment tasks or use it to add to an oral presentation or something similar.  In this blog, I will be exploring Microsoft PowerPoint. There are a number of elements that are embedded into PowerPoint that can enhance presentations, engage learners and allow students to explore higher-order thinking.  As PowerPoint is a common way to present information there are a number of elements to enhance the PowerPoint for both teachers and students.  The information is recorded and accessible to students. We have experienced in the last couple of years the importance to move online due to the pandemic. Using PowerPoint to p...

Digital Media to Enhance Teaching and Learning

Image
Digital Media to Enhance Teaching and Learning  The use of digital media in schools allows students to maintain engagement in learning as students learn visually and kinesthetically and not solely auditory (Cole, D. 2014). In a study by the University of Iowa, Professor Amy Poremba states that the use of technologies in schools and the interactive use of computer graphics and videos add more sense which can make visual cues stronger and improve visual memory which can also lead to increased attention span (Cole, D. 2014).  Using video in the Health and Physical Education classroom can enhance the learning of students in the class. Health and Physical Education in the practical sense requires teachers to demonstrate different skills that educators what students to mimic or try in the development of their skills. The use of digital media such as Videos can be used to demonstrate skills, assess skills and performances and for self-evaluation. They can also be used to show di...

Web Spaces

Web Spaces  The integration of Web Spaces being used in the classroom contributes to the changes occurring in the 21st Century. There is heightened awareness to integrate ICTs into the classroom to prepare learners with skills for the 21st Century. As Alejandro Pena-Ayala states, 21st-century education is about teaching approaches, meaningful learning habits and experiential use of new technology, allowing learners to develop skills and knowledge for the future (Pena-Ayala, 2021). The technologies being used in the classrooms now have altered the way teachers teach and students learn through innovations and affordances for creating content and sharing ideas (Henriksen et al, 2016).  Blogs using Blogger There are three types of Webpages I have been introduced, which include wikis, blogs and websites. Blogs created by using Blogger are easy to navigate as well as display information with the ability to comment on other blogs and for teachers to make notes. In the blog format, th...

The Contemporary Learner

The Contemporary Learner  The contemporary learners are highly stimulated by the environment around them. They have access to computers, iPads/tablets, TVs at their reach when they choose. This constant overstimulation results in Gen Zs constantly needing to be stimulated in their environment. They can no longer sit still and simply be board, they have a need to be always doing something.  This is now where teachers come in. In the traditional classroom where teachers would stand at the front of the room, sometimes on a stage and never interacted with students will no longer work with our contemporary learners. Teaching with visual aids will help the students to stay more engaged in the lesson.  Creativity in education is sometimes forgotten, this can be for a number of reasons. Creativity in everyday life is forgotten. Prior to the internet, children would have to come up with their own fun or something to do. This was done using their imagination. This is not done...

The Importance of Being a Contemporary Teacher

The Importance of Being a Contemporary Teacher Everyone has their own beliefs when it comes to using ICTs in the modern-day classroom. I believe ICTs have both positive and negative implications in the classroom, though there are definitely more positives than negatives.  If we look at what children are doing in their past time, there is a combination of videogames, youtube videos and TikTok. Being ICTs we know that it is used a lot by children. This shows the importance of integrating ICTs in the classroom to engage our students in learning.  I am excited and positive to learn more about integrating ICTs in the classroom and how I can further develop my skills to help students to learn more proficiently in the classroom.  When looking through the unit coursework from Week 1, the different ICTs used was refreshing. I am a visual and kinesthetic learner so reading textbooks after textbooks don't assist my learning in any way. Therefore I understand the importance of ...
